To Build A Fire By Jack London
This project was done in my Graphic Design Production 1 class in the term of Fall 2023 with Adobe Indesign. The project was to design a part of the inside of a magazine segment with a short story. Several short stories were provided and everyone in the class was allowed to choose one to use. I chose To Build A Fire by Jack London as the short story I wanted to format, as it was one I had once read before. We all had to read our stories, take notes, and make a mind map of ideas for themes to go through.
To Build A Fire is about an unknown character that is referred to as “the man” and a dog that accompanies him on the Yukon trail. One thing leads to another and he ends up freezing to death on the trail before he could make it to his camp.
I had the idea of the theme to be a blue background to mimic the cold, but also so that as the story progressed, each spread background would become darker, showing how everything for the man was getting darker, in a sense of it becoming night, and how he was freezing to death.
